Today was a day of redemption for me! I finally layed down a nice eight point buck! After everything we have been through this season it has finally come to pass for me!
It was a very quiet morning and we couldn't help but make all kinds of noise dropping down the ridge at 6:15am! Greg set up a decoy while I climbed up and got ready! We were in and ready to go! After about only 10 minutes we began to hear movement around us! A little while later Greg saw a doe down below us in an opened area! She moved through the area with stealth hoping not to be detected! Shortly after that, he appeared, and in the same opening the the doe was standing in a few moments earlier! He began his motion to move in the same direction as the doe, Greg was quick to pull out the bleat can and be rolled it over twice! He immediately began working toward us! As he approached he began angling away from us, and when he stopped Greg hit that bleat one more time. He did a quick turn around and came right to us!! As he approached I could see the perfect spot to shoot through. He moved into the opening at 20 yards and stopped. I was already at full draw and I settled the pin and let one fly at him! The luminock buried behind the shoulder and disappeared!! I knew he was hit good because when he ran off he stopped an started coughing!! He ran across the opening where we first saw him and crash!!! Then silence! We knew he was down but we couldn't see him!! It made us a little nervous but we were very excited! We gave him a couple hours and hoped for another deer to come in and we watched as three small bucks hung around the decoy for quite a while! When all was clear around 9:30 we got down and went and looked at the arrow! Complete pass through with blood everywhere! Bowhunters dreams were being fulfilled!! We followed the blood trail trying not to step in it was kinda difficult! It was quite amazing, and he was laying right where we thought he would be! Probably 70 yards from where I shot him!! An awesome morning, thank God for second, third and fourth chances!! Great finish to a crazy bowseason for me!!
